Studio & Study Day

A dedicated day for SHL core students to go at their own pace, dig in, and work on what matters to them. Studio & Study Day offers one day per week of self-directed time, project and art exploration, homework support, and peer connection — less structured than the core program, but guided and scaffolded by staff throughout.

Self-directed projects and homework support for SHL students.

A slower-paced, student-driven, social day available to SHL core academic students.

What Happens on Studio & Study Day

The day is built around two distinct blocks, each with a soft structure, teacher support, and student-designed purpose. Sandwiched between these blocks is an opportunity to share breaks, lunch, and free time with the SHL core group attending that day.

The morning is open project/studio time, facilitated by an SHL teacher for goal-setting and focus. Students use this time however it serves them best — working on a art project, building or making something, diving into independent research, holding a book talk, or developing personalized writing projects. A teacher offers assistance as needed and helps students move their work forward without driving the agenda. The environment is intended to have a learning lab feel and hum.

The afternoon shifts to core subject study and homework support based on the students’ needs led by program director Melissa Church. The afternoon study hall gives students a consistent, low-pressure opportunity to stay current on assignments, develop their writing pieces with extra help, and maintain a weekly homework completion commitment. The environment for study hall is quiet, calm, and focused.

Together, the two blocks give students both creative momentum, practical support, and socialization within a self-paced day.

Enrollment & Fit

  • Studio & Study Day is a natural fit for students who have projects they want to pursue, work they want to stay on top of, or who simply benefit from having a consistent, lower-key creative day built into their week alongside the structure of the core program.
  • It works especially well for students who are self-directed and could benefit from designated time and/or support with homework.
  • This program is available exclusively to currently enrolled SHL core academic students. It is designed to complement the core academic week — not add additional academic pressure.

Tuition & Commitment

  • Enrolled per semester, $60/day
