At School House Lane, we reimagine middle school homeschooling through a modern one-room schoolhouse approach. Students explore literature, history, science, and the arts in a small group setting led by a highly experienced teacher.
I founded School House Lane in 2021 as a way to provide my own children — and others — with rigorous, book-centered academics in a small group setting.
Today, School House Lane offers a secular, humanities-focused curriculum that incorporates science, enrichment workshops, and monthly field trips.
I believe middle schoolers thrive when they are challenged, supported, and part of a caring community.

About Me
I bring over 26 years of teaching experience, certifications in Elementary, Special Education, and Reading, and a commitment to inclusive, neuro-affirming, and anti-racist education.
I am an educator, children’s program creator, parent of 3, and world traveler. I have a Master’s in Ed., PA certifications in Elementary K-6, Special Ed. K-12, and as a Reading Specialist K-12, and 26 years of teaching experience in traditional and alternative settings.
I co-directed Staging Journeys, a Philly-based education, arts, and travel organization from 2018-2021. I directed Student Stage Camps, a summer performing arts program in center city, Phila. for 10 years. I’ve facilitated various classes and workshops for Philly-area homeschool organizations.
I provide homeschool consulting and PA evaluations.
“Learning to homeschool alongside my own children and discovering their innate drive to learn was the most valuable teacher education I have had!”
— Melissa Church
Our older daughter, Madeline (21), homeschooled throughout middle school, graduated from the IB program at Central High School, took a gap year to travel and make music, and is now at Grinnell College majoring in English; our middle guy, Simon (18), homeschooled in elementary and middle, graduated from the Creative and Performing Arts High School of Philadelphia, and is in his first year at the University of Miami to study music; our younger daughter, Sara (14), was my muse for starting School House Lane in 2021; she homeschooled until 7th grade and is now in her first year at the Creative and Performing Arts High School of Philadelphia.
The best way to learn about me as a teacher, aside from chatting with me directly, is by talking to past and current School House Lan parents. Just ask and I’ll share their contacts; they are happy to connect! If you’re on Fb, you can search “School House Lane” and request to join the private group to scroll through our weekly media. This is a great way to get a true glimpse.
